DUCKS
Waterfowl are extraordinary birds to add to your farm flock. Ducks make excellent pets and are easy to raise. We offer eight standard varieties of ducks. If you are looking for a meat duck, try our Pekin; they are very fast growing and can be butchered as soon as 7 weeks of age. Khaki Campbell's are the best egg layer; they produce an average of 275 eggs per season. Many customers have told us they prefer duck eggs to chicken eggs and that they are great to bake with. Dunlap's sees the duck market as an expanding and exciting area of growth in the poultry industry. This year we have added the Miniature Appleyard to our duck selection.
White Pekin $3.70 Each
Pekins are originally from China and have been bred for rapid growth, hardiness and meat production. They are very calm and hardy breed.
Rouen $3.70 Each
Rouens (pronounced ruins) are originally from France and, as you can see, closely resemble the wild Mallard but do not fly. Some gourmets prefer their meat over all other ducks. They are moderate layers, laying mostly greenish shelled eggs.
Khaki Campbell $3.70 Each
Khaki Campbells excel at egg production. They often produce over 275 eggs per season. They are also excellent foragers and will sit on and hatch their own eggs.
Indian Runner $4.15 Each
Indian or White Fawn Runners are from the Orient where they are used in rice fields, making them very good foragers. Their unique slender, upright stance makes them able to move around more quickly than most other breeds.
Blue Swedish $4.05 Each
Blue Swedish ducks are originally from Germany and are active foragers. They produce 50% blue-gray, 25% black and 25% white ducklings, making them very interesting to watch for those intrigued with genetics.
Cayuga $4.05 Each
Cayugas are one of the few native ducks of North America. They are a hardy and quiet breed. Often they will lay eggs that are black or gray.
Buff $4.05 Each
Buff ducks are valued for their dual purpose capabilities- rapid growth for meat production and large quantities of high quality eggs.
Mallard $3.70 Each
The Mallard is the breed from which all domestic ducks, except the Muscovy, originate. They can fly very well and can consistently hatch and raise a brood of ducklings. They are prized because of their delicate flavor.
Miniature Silver Appleyard $12.00 Each
Developed in England by Reginal Appleyard in the 1940’s. Ducks at maturity weigh 30-36 oz. Females are natural mothers and are excellent surrogates. They are the hardiest of the bantam ducks. Limited supply- order early.
