One of our most popular breeds, the Rhode Islands will not disappoint the grower. Developed in the early 1900's, they are very tame layers of brown eggs. They have good feed conversion and will lay for a very long time. Chicks are a rusty brown color.

Used as a dual-purpose bird, the Barred Rock is an old fashioned breed with a good laying capability. Eggs are brown and of good size. Chicks are mostly black with a white splotch on the top of their head.

This is our best brown egg layer. Imported originally from the Netherlands, this strain is used in over 60 countries worldwide. Capable of producing over 300 strong shelled eggs per year, the Golden Sex Link is a very hearty bird that can withstand cold temperatures. When hatched, the males are a creamy white with the females colored in shades of red.

These birds are also exceptionally good layers of brown eggs. They are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Plymouth Rock. The hens are mostly black with red coloring primarily around the neck. Males are black and white barred similarly to the coloring of a Barred Rock.

White Leghorns are the primary bird used in today’s white egg market. We use the Tetra Blanca strain for our breeding stock. They have excellent feed conversion ratios and egg production.

The Buff Orpington is a very docile bird that lays brown eggs. They are a large bird, that make very good setters should you be interested in reproducing. They were developed by William Cook in the 1880’s in England. These buff colored birds have excellent plumage and make wonderful show birds.

The New Hampshire Red was developed in 1915 in the state of New Hampshire. They were bred for rapid growth, durability and early maturity. They lay nice brown eggs and are very friendly.

The Sagitta is a dual purpose bird that is a cross between a Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red and Cornish Cross. They are a heavy, docile breed that will provide large eggs as well as a nice size bird on the table.

The Amber White is a cross between a Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White. They are a calm, easily adaptable bird with excellent livability. The Ambers beautiful brown egg color and good feathering throughout the lay makes her a preferred product.

Available at Dunlap's since 1918, the White Rock is one of the best dual-purpose breeds used for both meat and eggs. They are fast growing and are very disease resistant. Chicks are a smoky yellow color with gray shaded legs.

Introduced to the U.S. from Australia in the early 1900’s, the Australorp has been available at Dunlap Hatchery since we began business. It is a very hearty dual purpose breed that lays a medium to large brown egg. With their gentle temperament and beautiful iridescent black coloring, they are a very popular breed for the backyard.

The Aquila is a cross between the Black Australorp and Rhode Island Red, with a little White Plymouth Rock mixed in. Their adult coloring is usually very similar to the Black Australorp, having the iridescent shimmer. But they can also have some red come through from the Rhode Island in them. They are a docile bird that lays a large brown egg.

Austra Whites are a cross between a Black Australorp and a White leghorn. They are a breed that was developed by Dunlap hatchery in the early 1900's. They are an excellent layer of off white eggs. They are a heavier bird and a lot less flighty then a straight leghorn.
